cyclone Idai emergency appeal

Cyclone Idai has devastated the southern hemisphere: Millions of people in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi have been affected in what might be the worst disaster ever caused by man-made climate change.

Thousands of hectares of crops have been destroyed. There is no electricity, clean drinking water is scarce and food is rapidly running out. The worst affected areas are: Southern Malawi; Chimanimani, Mutasa, Mutare, Chipinge, Buhera, Chikomba, Gutu and Bikita in Zimbabwe; the provinces of Sofala, Manica, Zambezia, Niassa; and Inhambane in Mozambique.

The Jesuit Relief Fund (JRF) was set up to enable Jesuit organisations to provide much-needed emergency humanitarian aid to communities affected by natural disasters. JRF has already distributed the first batch of aid to Chimanimani, the worst affected area in Zimbabwe, which has been devastated by flooding. People have been given clothing, non-perishable food and blankets.

We urgently need your help to provide aid to communities like this in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi who are struggling to cope with the effects of this catastrophic event.

Please give us your support.
